Q: Will lifting weights make me look big and bulky?

A: NO!! This is one of the most common misconceptions about weight lifting for women. Think about it for a minute... The average mother can carry a 20 lb baby for 6 hours a day and not get bulky. Most women do not have the testosterone levels to support bulk muscle growth, without the use of steroids. However, weight training will increase LEAN muscle mass and when mixed with the appropriate amount of cardio will create a lean, sculpted body.

Q: Will training impair my child's physical development?

A: If implemented properly, by an experienced trainer, who emphasizes proper technique and safety, training can be very beneficial to your child. It can increase coordination and self-esteem as well as decrease the risk for injury and Type II Diabetes. To read more, please click HERE.

Q: If I want to lose weight, I need to exercise more and eat less, right?

A: This is not always the case. As trainers, we hear this all the time. Too many clients come in and work so hard, only to go home and sabotage themselves. Not... by eating cupcakes and brownies, but by not consuming enough calories to sustain their physical needs while training.  The adage "move more, eat less" is just too simplistic. Without the appropriate amount of fuel, our bodies go into starvation mode and conserve all energy resources, resulting in higher body fat percentage.

Our bodies are designed to keep us alive, not to understand that we are trying to lose 10 lbs to fit into those "skinny" jeans. Demanding more of your body, while nourishing it less, will result in failure. It can be very confusing, particularly when you are starting a new health and fitness routine. So use the resources available to you and talk to your trainer and a nutrition specialist.
